Questions to ask when buying a used cars? For sale by owner?

What are some good questions to ask when buying a used car that is for sale by the owner?

What are some good bargaining points so that I could lower the price?

All I know right now is that it is a GMC truck. .that's red. haha.Questions to ask when buying a used cars? For sale by owner?
get a carfax report on it. have a mechanic look at it before you buy it. Try to look for defects mechanically and cosmetically.

look on the interior. ask if the car is a salvage title, meaning that it was totaled, but ifxed up anyway. ask if all the matience was done, and if it was, by a professional, or an ameteur? take a test drive and see if it runs smoothly. ask if there was any body work done to it, even if it was a small detn from a fender bender

if the car has been in an accident, that should lower the price into about almost a half. be sure to invest the 30 dollars and get teh carfax, just to see that he isnt lying. if the matiencing wasnt done.. just leave, because its gonna have lots of problems

but other than that, buying it should be decently simple. good luck!Questions to ask when buying a used cars? For sale by owner?
I would get a membership to car fax for a month and also have your mechanic look at it too.
Remember that ALL casual (by owner) car sales are, by law, ';AS IS';. That means if you buy it, the instant you drive off in it, YOU are responsible for any repairs the it may need. It is imperative that you have it check by a mechanic of your choosing BEFORE you buy it. It will be the best $100.00 you ever spend.
The only thing car fax gets are insurance reports while they are a good place to start you are far better having a really good mechanic check it thoroughly for you . Check the Frame for damage , the drive-line engine and transmission , maintenance records if they exist , alignment and brakes as well as the rear differential .If these check as good then you have a decent vehicle if not pass on it . This will cost you some money but will save you a bundle in the long run . If you can't afford to check these things you can't afford the vehicle .
';Will you let my mechanic look at it?'; If he says no, move on.
